Fishing

Group_Benbow_BestThe Klamath River has a reputation as one of the great salmon rivers on the planet. Tens of thousands of fish swim by the Cher-ere Bridge Campground every year.  Winter steelhead, coastal cutthroat trout and Pacific lamprey are in the lower Klamath River from December through April.  Spring Chinook, summer steelhead, and sturgeon come next, riding spring rains and snow melt to destinations throughout the watershed.

The peak of fishing season begins in July and runs through mid-October.  Bank and boat anglers often go home with a prize catch of a fall Chinook salmon. Flyfishers from around the world come to fish at Blake’s Riffle, not far upstream of the Cher-ere Bridge Campground.  You can’t launch a boat from the campground, but there are two free boat ramps nearby – the Terwer Boat Ramp at Klamath Glen and the boat ramp at Klamath.

Professional guides are available in almost all seasons and usually provide all gear and bait but you must have a valid California fishing license. Here are a few fishing guides.
